Overview

This journey combines a visit to the best Tanzanian National Parks. Legendary names such as Tarangire National Park, Serengeti, Kilimanjaro and Ngorongoro evoke ancient memory and instil awe. Experience breath-taking landscapes filled with a staggering amount and variety of wildlife,

from creatures you’ve always imagined seeing on safari, to animals you may never even have dreamed of. Enter the Serengeti and witness the calving season from mid-December to March when wildebeest drop their young and the circle of life starts anew. Enjoy a spectacular river cross of the Grumeti River from May to July by herds of wildebeest and zebra who must outsmart the huge Nile crocodiles and fast flowing water before facing predators waiting on the other side.

Arusha

Day 1 Arrival Arusha

You will be met at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) by our representative and transfer to Mount Meru Game Lodge. On arrival enjoy a refreshing welcome drink while completing check in procedures. Once you are settled into your room unwind and get ready for your next adventure tomorrow morning.

Tarangire

Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, meet your local guide and depart for Tarangire National Park. A full day game drive will reveal all the wonders of Tarangire national park located in Manyara Region. The name of the park originates from the Tarangire river that crosses through the park, being the only source of water for wild animals during dry seasons. During the dry season thousands of animals migrate to the Tarangire National Park from Manyara National Park.

The park is famous for its huge number of elephants, baobab trees and tree climbing lions. Visitors to the park can expect to see any number of resident zebra and wildebeest in addition to the less common animals. Other common animals include waterbuck, giraffe, and olive baboons.

Home to more than 550 species, the park is a haven for bird enthusiasts who can expect so see dozens of species even in the dry season. The swamps are the focus of the largest selection of breeding birds anywhere in the world. Yellow-collared Lovebirds are a common bird sighting in the trees along the Tarangire River.

The park is also famous for the termite mounds that dot the landscape. Those that have been abandoned are often seen to be home to dwarf mongoose.

The landscape and vegetation is incredibly diverse with a mix that is not found anywhere else in the northern safari circuit. The hilly landscape is dotted with vast numbers of Baobab trees, dense bush and high grasses. In the late afternoon you will be driven to Little Oliver’s camp for overnight.

Tarangire

Day 3: Full Day Tarangire National Park

After a leisurely breakfast, enjoy a full day game viewing in Tarangire National Park.

See lions bask in the sun, zebras lap up water from a pond, and leopards dash across the savannah. Kids will love a stop at a nearby lodge for a dip in the pool where elephants have been spotted taking a drink. As the evening approaches, drive back to Little Oliver’s camp for overnight.

Ngorongoro

6 – 8 Serengeti National Park

This morning the next stop of this family journey takes you to Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera.  En route you’ll stop at a local school so your kids can meet their Tanzanian pals and may be give them some stationary gifts. You can enjoy a hearty lunch at Gibb’s Farm before your journey continues. On arrival at Ngorongoro Crater Lodge enjoy a Welcome drink while completing check in procedures.

AndBeyond Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is set on the edge of the crater, providing spectacular vistas of one of the natural wonders of the world. It is undoubtedly one of the most opulent lodges in Tanzania. Combining architectural hints of traditional Maasai homesteads with interior styles borrowed from European stately homes.

Guests are accommodated in three camps with luxurious Suites offering stilted, handcrafted mud and thatch suite. The suites are decorated with elegant antiques, grand chandeliers as well as unique African treasures

Usually described as the place where ‘Maasai meets Versailles’, each of the three camps offers its guest dining, lounge areas, and viewing decks. The unique domed dining room, with its fancy fireplace, the crystal, silver and massive wooden platters, makes every dining a special occasion.

Enjoy your afternoon game drive with stop for Sundowners to stretch your legs while marvelling at the splendour of an African sunset, and the absolute tranquillity of the bush

Later you’ll have a chance listen to your guide talk more about the history of this volcanic caldera

 The next morning, you’ll descend 2,000 feet below the camp to the crater’s floor. Your day here will be full of excitement as this 10-mile wide crater is home to the densest concentration of wildlife in Africa. Your experienced guide has an intimate knowledge of the area and will explain the finer, intricate details of the bush, its wildlife and its many wonders.

You and your family can play a game of who is best at identifying wildlife.

Serengeti

Day 6 – 9 to Serengeti National Park

Enjoy your last morning game drive in the Ngorongoro Conservation area. After a leisurely breakfast guests depart for the Serengeti National Park. En route you will stop at Olduvai Gorge also known as “the Cradle of Mankind.” Set between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti, the gorge makes a good stop for guests travelling between the two, rewarding visitors with a presentation on its history, an excellent new museum, and beautiful views – as well as the possibility of visiting an active dig. The gorge is one of the most important paleoanthropological sites in the world because it has the oldest evidence of human evolution. Arrival in the Serengeti is in the middle of the afternoon.

Departure

Day 10 Departure

This morning after one last morning game drive, wave goodbye to the vast plains of the Serengeti and its large wildlife herds – there will be time to purchase some memorabilia from the lodge curio shop before being transferred to the airstrip for your flight back to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
